About Woolavington Community Hub
Who are we?
Launched in March 2025, the Hub began life as a ‘pilot project’ of Villages Together, which was funded by the National Lottery’s Big Local programme. Following the completion of our successful ‘pilot’ year, we continue to provide a wide range of social activities and local services, supported by SHAL Housing, Thrive Somerset, Spark Somerset – and a brilliant team of local volunteers who keep everything moving.
From arts and crafts to mental health support, from community learning to practical advice, the Hub is a safe, friendly space where people can find what they need, close to home.
Why the Hub exists
In winter 2022/23, local residents told us they were feeling isolated and cut off – especially older people, young families and young people. Public transport is limited. Taxis are expensive. Services can feel miles away.
People wanted somewhere local. Somewhere welcoming. Somewhere that made life a bit easier.
So we created it.
A proven success
After a 12-month pilot project, the Hub has:
Supported hundreds of local residents one-to-one
Helped tackle loneliness and isolation
Improved access to housing, health and wellbeing support
Bridged the digital divide with hands-on IT help
Brought multiple public services together under one roof
By bringing services into the village, we make it easier for people to get support early – before problems grow bigger.
